The house of four bells
The House of Four Bells is a cir. 1890, 3-story rowhouse with a rich history. Referencing the carved relief of four female hands holding four bells above the main door, its renovation was achieved in four distinct but cohesive ways:
1) KEEPING the significant original elements - such as the pocket doors from the kitchen to a custom steel track at the second-floor study.
2) REPURPOSING original elements - such as the pocket doors from the kitchen to a custom steel track at the second-floor study.
3) REPLACING old elements with new elements - such as the "sky deck" with its bright green steel structure, eat-in kitchen, and modern baths.
4) INSERTING new elements - such as the 3 wall benches, wall openings, and sculptural ceilings.
