The Courtyard Canopy
This one-story residential project transformed its original 'L' shape into a 'U'. The main addition is of the back patio courtyard, where a large cantilevered roof provides shade and an effortless indoor-outdoor connection to the new galley kitchen. This expansion of the kitchen brings in tons of daylight, but minimizes heat gain thanks to the large overhang that the cantilever provides. The pop-up window above the front door similarly lets light penetrate further into the house, reducing the need for artificial lighting throughout the day. Also included is an efficient mudroom, larger ensuite bathrooms, and an outdoor stair to the basement for better access.
