Two rectangular forms - one floating perpendicularly and overhanging the other on 3 sides - create a new 1,600 SF house after the old house was voluntarily burned down.  A modern veranda connects a carport on the east side and a people-port on the west side - providing shade in the hot summer and cover during inclement weather.  Inside, a wood and steel rail single stringer stair ascends to diverse, elevated views on the second floor.  The new house takes its cues from the surrounding mountain view - notably the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah National Park, the existing pool, the climate, and local historic structures.
