Friendship Heights,
Washington DC
Ordonez Addition
Modern functionality meets a traditional home in this vertical addition in NW DC. The new third floor aligns with the existing roof slope and first floor stairs to create a cohesive exterior and interior to fully maximize vertical space. Inside, the first floor plan includes a relocated dining area, making way for a more expansive kitchen and a generous island perfect for cooking and entertaining. A “cube of commodity” surrounds the powder room, upstairs, library shelving provides much desired storage, and finally, the new third floor tucks extensive closet space into the wall. In a limited square footage, designing rooms with enough storage has to get creative! The custom office space and floating stairs are both defined with clean lines, and the cut outs to break down the stair wall mimic the slope of the ceiling, a small yet satisfying architectural detail.
