Flux Studio
Drawing inspiration from Kahn’s habitable thickened wall, Flux Studio – a renovated basement office – was designed to define “serving space” which accommodates the programmatic needs of the client (including storage, bathroom, kitchenette, and workspace) from the “served space” which allows for openness and flexibility. A series of flush birch doors extends the length of the basement and allows the client to control the dialogue between the spaces that it divides by either concealing or revealing the articulated rooms beyond. This project investigates opening up the possibilities of design and creating dynamic and adaptable spaces, with opportunity for both intimate and community areas.
